Plans Can’t Keep Up with Changes

When I was still in China conducting training and orientation programs for westerners, I always taught the trainees one of my favorite Chinese sayings: jìhuà méiyǒu biànhuà kuài (计划没有变化快). “Plans can’t keep up with changes.” It was one of those phrases that, when I learned it (while studying the language in Changchun in the 1990s), helped me make sense of so much of life in China that I often found confusing or annoying.

Now, living back in the United States, in a society where pretty much everything has been cancelled, I’ve had to trot out the phrase again.

On March 6 (in another time and era, it seems) I posted about an upcoming lecture that ChinaSource was planning to host in the Twin Cities on April 30. A week later, all public gatherings in the state and across the country were banned.

The bad news is that this meant we had to cancel the live lecture in Minnesota. The good news is that it will now be a webinar, which means that you don’t have to be in Minnesota to attend!

The date and time remain the same: Thursday, April 30 at 7PM (US Central time).

Go here to register. It’s still free!

Here is the updated flyer:

Looking forward to “seeing” you on April 30.
