With the Covid-19 restrictions in place during the Spring Festival this year, how did China’s churches celebrate? China Christian Daily gives us glimpse of what the holiday was like for some churches in China.

Churches Across China Celebrate Spring Festival

On the Lunar New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, pastoral co-workers and congregations in Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Guangxi, Zhejiang, and other places celebrated the Spring Festival in different ways.

Liaoning

The believers at Centennial Yuguang Street Church in Zhongshan District, Dalian, recited in a Wechat group the scriptures every day under the pastors’ leadership. Their task on February 12 was to memorize Psalm 6:4 and Psalm 6:9.

Members of the Shuishiying Church in Lvshunkou District, Dalian, took turns each day in the WeChat group to read the Bible, pray, and praise. More than 3,000 people attended to read the scriptures from early morning to night.

On February 11, Senior Pastor Wu Bing of Dalian Xishan Gospel Church led all pastors to send New Year’s greetings to the believers via video in the WeChat group.

The mission team and other fellowships in Anshan Lvhua Street Church organized members to read, pray, bless, share, and sing hymns in the WeChat group. From New Year’s Eve to the Spring Festival, they also prayed for the pastors, the country, and the churches’ resumption. Some workers even wrote hymns to praise God.

Heilongjiang

Senior Pastor Qin Shuping of the church in Jinsha New District, Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang, released a virtual letter to greet the congregation on New Year’s Eve. Their daily Bible readings has lasted 298 days.

Guangxi

On the first day of the Spring Festival, the church held a live broadcast of the New Year thanksgiving service online. During this period, pastoral co-workers sent almost 300 red envelopes with 10 yuan inside to children in the Wechat group, wishing them a happy and healthy life.

The calligraphy works of fellow workers in the churches of Hepu County were selected for the county’s 2021 online Spring Festival exhibition including couplets, calligraphy, and photography. The fellow workers are Elder Chen Kaosi, chairman of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM) of Beihai, Chen Guangjun, chairman of the TSPM of Hepu County, and Zhu Guoxiong.

Pastor Li Qingzhen, who is over 80 years old and has been preaching for more than 50 years, sang Hallelujah on the first day of the lunar new year to praise God in Fangchenggang City Park, Guangxi Province. She persists in daily devotions, reading, and praying every day during the festival.

Zhejiang

Besides playing the piano to praise God, 94-year-old Yuan Xiangzhong, who had worked for the Lord for decades in the Fenghua District of Ningbo City, led the family in thanksgiving prayers before dinner. He sent various devotional articles and sermons to the Wechat group every day.
