One Body, Many Parts
A Call for Unity
May 7, 2020
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve often heard, “we’ll get through this together,” and indeed, unity could not be more necessary than in this critical time. Yet, tragically, we are also seeing division on many fronts.
Prevailing news headlines show what began as a global health crisis has now been politicized into an even messier situation. In our local communities, we’re seeing economic instability, racism, protests, crime, domestic violence, and abuse. Much of society is breaking down.
Reflecting on these matters, we at ChinaSource are reminded, even more so, of our calling as Christ-followers to make every effort towards unity in him.
The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. . . . If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.”
1 Corinthians 12:12, 26
The need for unity within the global church is not new, though it is more glaring in desperate times like these. For more than two decades, ChinaSource has been involved in unifying efforts, helping bring the Chinese church and the global church closer; mutually engaging, collaborating, and serving together for the advancement of God’s kingdom.
Daily, we have the privilege of witnessing the power and impact of unity in Jesus Christ through a commitment to collaboration. As a core value, collaboration is more than just another word for us; it is the way he has led us to serve.
Our relationships with those we serve goes beyond merely providing information. We greatly value the unity of Christ-followers in China with the international Christian community, recognizing the unique gifts and roles of each part, as all work together, for the fulfilment of his redemptive purposes.
Collaboration enhances and amplifies our work. Only when infused with the unifying spirit of collaboration will the analysis and insight that ChinaSource provides become timely wisdom and an encouragement to the global community. This is the only way we can achieve the mission to which Jesus has called us. The hope of China and the world is Jesus Christ and the advance of his kingdom through his bride. A unified global church, with each member seeing their part as one among many for purposes of the greater body, is a testimony to the world of what is possible through the certain, transformative hope of Jesus Christ.
