Urbanization Visualized

From the series Cities of China


We talk a lot about the massive urbanization that has taken place in China since the 1980s but what does it look like? In the past installments of this series on China’s cities, I have highlighted a video of different cities around China that show what this urbanization looks like from the ground—the roads, the parks, the buildings, the people.

But what does urbanization look like from a distance—from space?

Today’s video clip is a bit different. Produced by Tech Insider,  it is a collection of satellite images taken of various cities over the course of decades. You can watch the cities grow before your eyes!
